JROTC Curriculum
First and foremost, “The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens.” The curriculum consists of a wide range of subjects from American History, to Leadership Theory, to reviews of the U.S. Constitution, and even CPR/First Aid. Students involved in JROTC are known as cadets, and courses are taught by retired officers and enlisted army personnel, or Army instructors, who act as teachers, mentors, and facilitators to the largely student-run program. Students wear cost-free provided uniforms once a week on Wednesday, at which time they are evaluated on both their appearance and their knowledge of the JROTC curriculum. |
Cadet Leadership in the Spartan Battalion
Participation in the program increases by years, as upperclassmen take on greater responsibility and rank. Cadets direct the skills they have learned in class and in positions of leadership towards planning and organizing community service projects (such as service learning projects), battalion social events (like the annual military ball), Wednesday inspections, and the annual Mass Inspection. |
